Individuals in relationships where there is domestic violence are at higher risk for homicide. Add firearms, and the risk rises by 500%.

Gun access makes women 3 times likelier to be killed in the home, and makes domestic violence 5 times likelier to become murder. 

A gun in the home is 22 times more likely to shoot someone living in the home than an intruder. 

Most “mass shooting” events occur in private spaces, usually related to domestic violence. They don’t often make the news.
